The concept of a varifold, geometric measure theory and links to minimal submanifold and stationary varifolds through the Ginzburg Landau energy functional of superconductivity. In this talk I will briefly go through definitions of geometric measure theory including rectifiable sets, sets with finite perimeter, integral varifolds, and regularity theorems regarding those. I will discuss recent developments and ideas from superconductivity used to prove existence and regularity of such sets relating to stationary submanifolds (integral varifolds in geometric measure theoretic sense). I will also mention open problems in the field and how one can start to get familiar with the subject and start to research.
